illiterate when arrived in Sydney. Had 3 children to Robert ?
(a gentleman of Ashfield) bef. she married SFC K No.1 - rumoured to
be a well known cricketer. Her photo (& father Charles, mother
Sophia, young Annie) found in shoe box, home of dtr Hannah, in 1999.
(3x2 yellowed, into 6x4, not v good.)

Joseph Mead was a brickmaker, and his son-in-law, Dugald, was
one of 18 children in the Elphinstone family - they came from
Aberdeen,Scotland to Sydney 5th Sept 1832 on the "ARUNDELL".
Dugald's older brothers Gourlay and Balfour were founding members of
the Master Builders Assoc. of NSW and their grand buildings are
still around Glebe, Ashfield and Croydon. The young Elphinstone
lads around Sydney today are still in the building industry.(late

(From Mr Barker mid 1990's - Robert Thomson killed his wife May
and son Val with an axe in 1940, his daughter Hilma was lucky -
she has a plate in her head from the attack. Robert Thomson died
in Kenmore Asylum in 1956.

He said the information she gave him in 1978 on the MEAD family
was 90% correct and she was instrumental in getting him started.
Her memories on when and where her aunts and uncles died was
accurate and this eventually led him (Ken) to their families.
She knew Jane Mead (nee Ruckley) very well and described her as
a lovely person - with all her children she still looked after
Samuel Kirchner Snr. after his wife Mary died.)
